The Trees to Treasure project is now in its second year and open to applications; the scheme has 8,000 trees to give away in 2013 to groups to plant on their open spaces.
Community groups, schools, parish councils, neighbourhood groups and all clubs and organisations are being invited to take part in the scheme; applications must be sent to the Countryside Partnerships by the 31st of October 2013.
Groups can apply for trees to create small and large planting schemes which benefit the local community and wildlife across North and Mid Kent. Applications will be processed in November, ready for distribution of the trees in December.
The project is supported by the Big Tree Plant, a national campaign run by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Forestry Commission. The national campaign aims to support the planting of 1 million trees by April 2015 across England with a focus on tree planting where communities live and work.
Trees to Treasure will be available to communities in the following districts and boroughs; Dartford, Gravesham, London Borough of Bexley, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Swale, Tonbridge and Malling and Tunbridge Wells.
If you would like more information or you would like to receive some advice on a project please contact the partnership on 01322 294 727 or email l.smith@nwkcp.org.
